HEICIMG

What is HEIC? (HEIF) – Explained

HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container) is a modern image format developed by the Moving Picture Experts Group (MPEG). It's based on the HEIF (High Efficiency Image Format) standard and has become the default image format for Apple devices since iOS 11 and macOS High Sierra.

Why Do iPhones Use HEIC?

Apple adopted HEIC because it offers significantly better compression than JPEG while maintaining similar or better image quality. This means you can store more photos on your device without sacrificing quality. HEIC files are typically 50% smaller than equivalent JPEG files, which is especially important for devices with limited storage.

HEIC Compatibility Issues

While HEIC is excellent for storage, it's not universally supported. Many platforms, including older versions of Windows, web browsers, and social media platforms, don't natively support HEIC files. This is why converting HEIC to JPG or PNG is often necessary for sharing or viewing images on different devices.

How to Convert HEIC

The best way to convert HEIC files is using a browser-based converter that processes images locally on your device. This ensures your photos never leave your computer, maintaining complete privacy. Our free converter supports both HEIC to JPG and HEIC to PNG conversion.
