HEIC Converter FAQ
What is HEIC?
HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container) is a modern image format based on HEIF (High Efficiency Image Format). It's the default format for photos taken on iPhones and iPads since iOS 11. HEIC offers better compression than JPEG while maintaining similar or better quality. Learn more in our What is HEIC guide.
Why does iPhone use HEIC?
Apple adopted HEIC because it provides significantly better compression than JPEG. HEIC files are typically 50% smaller than equivalent JPEG files while maintaining the same or better image quality. This allows users to store more photos on their devices without sacrificing quality.
Do you upload my photos?
No. All conversion happens entirely in your browser on your device. Your HEIC files are never uploaded to any server. This ensures complete privacy and security. Read our Privacy Policy for more details.
Is the conversion private?
Yes, absolutely. The conversion process runs entirely in your browser using JavaScript. No data is sent to any server, and we don't track or store any information about your files or usage.
Can I convert multiple files at once?
Yes, our converter supports batch conversion. You can select multiple HEIC files and convert them all at once. Each file is processed individually with progress indicators, so you can track the conversion status.
Why can't Windows open HEIC?
Windows doesn't natively support HEIC format. While Windows 10 and 11 can view HEIC files after installing a codec pack, the easiest solution is to convert HEIC to JPG or PNG. Learn how to open HEIC on Windows and use our HEIC to JPG converter.
Does it work offline?
The converter works in your browser and processes files locally. However, you need an internet connection to initially load the website and the conversion library. Once loaded, the conversion itself happens offline in your browser. Future PWA features may enable full offline functionality.
